Getting Back Into The Groove

We are two weeks into school. I think we are getting back into the groove and getting acclimated to the second grade procedures. We have practiced this week with homework and next week we will be in full swing with homework and Oops Notices! Have a great weekend!

Homework

Tonight is our first night for homework. Normally we will have a homework sheet to write down the homework, and then you will sign the homework sheet that  your child completed the homework. But since we only have one night this week, I opted to skip the sheet. Your child has a math page (side 2B) that will need to be completed and returned tomorrow. They should be able to complete most, if not all of it on their own. We have talked in class that it is REALLY important that they share what it is that we have worked on in class with you, to help you better understand what we are doing in  math. They also have their spelling journal with them. This is strictly to get them into the habit of the journal travelling back and forth. Once we start practicing the second grade words it will be really important that they practice them on a regular basis. This is why the journal goes back and forth each day. If you have any questions please let me know.

Teacher Appreciation Week

What an amazing week! I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to have a career in a field that I love. Many are denied this opportunity. Every year I meet new children who fill more heart with joy, happiness and occasionally sadness. Their success is my joy. Their excitement when they master a skill is my happiness.  The pain they feel in their life whether it is the loss of a family member, a pet or a fight with a friend is my sadness. Thank you for sharing your children with me this year. I truly feel that while you have showered me with love & gifts this week, this week is really a time for reflection on how much this teacher appreciates being  at such a wonderful school with such caring and supportive parents! Thank you!!

National Read Across America Day

Monday, March 2nd we will celebrate Read Across America Day. We will be wearing our PJ's on Monday to celebrate! I would like for everyone to bring in some of their favorite books. We will be meeting up with our buddies in the afternoon and we will be reading with them and having cookies and milk. This is also the day we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss! I would love it if each child brought in their favorite Dr. Seuss book, if they have one.

Faith, Knowledge and Service in Our Vocations

We started the day off in the gym as we set out for the Amazing Race! I was with team #3 and we had a BLAST racing around the campus and flying through the gym as we collected clues along the way. I have to admit, I got a little caught up in the whole thing and I forgot to take more pictures.

Mini Sessions

Day 3 Catholic Schools Week
Faith, Knowledge and Service in Our Nation

Today we spent some time learning to do a variety of things. Be sure to ask your children about the fun activities they did in their sessions. I wish I could have walked around to each session, but I was assigned to helping with the making of mini pizzas. Below are some pictures from my time in the kitchen.

Reading Counts

In your child's homework folder you will find a Student Report. This is a progress report that lets you know the various books your child has read and how they are doing on the quizzes. It is extremely important that your child pick books that are a good fit for them, This means that they need to pick books that are in their Lexile range. Please sign the report and return it to school tomorrow so your child can put it in their Reading Counts folder to help them track the books they have read.

I'm Back!

Oh thank goodness, I'm back! As hard as I have tried to avoid the flu it finally got me! As you may know I left school Monday and then was gone Tuesday. I am back today and feeling MUCH better! Please know that we have been wiping down our desk on a regular basis and I have encouraged the kids to bring their own water bottles to avoid the water fountains. I strongly encourage you to keep your kiddos home if they are not feeling well so they can get to feeling better and we don't continue to pass this around.

Some People Are Worth Melting For!

We did the cutest writing activity the other day!  The kids' melted snowmen turned out so cute I had to share. Now this is only a small portion of our snowmen, Mrs. Dampf & Mrs. Neidert joined us and wrote stories as well.

You are Simply the best!

I would like to thank each and every one of you for the wonderful Christmas present. The gift cards and candy were so sweet of you and are truly appreciated. I would also like to thank those of you that helped with the Christmas party the children had a great time!
